Special Faculty Session Added to Campus Master Plan Forums

A two-hour session for faculty members has been added to the five-day series of campus master plan meetings this week in 209 Wes Watkins Center. The new faculty session is scheduled from 3-5 p.m., Thursday (March 24). Planners and designers from The Benham Companies are hosting the forums to gather student, faculty and staff input on a new 20-year master plan for the campus. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend any and all of the forums. Participants may be asked to serve as representatives on a stakeholder committee that will work with Benham throughout the master planning process. OSU Foundation Announces $1 Million in Bequests for PDS Scholarships

The OSU Foundation has announced bequests totaling nearly $1 million from the estate of the late Horace and Norma Cleveland of San Antonio. This gift will provide funding for approximately 18 students to receive prestigious President’s Distinguished Scholarships at OSU. Horace Cleveland graduated from OSU’s Spears School of Business in 1929.  He recognized the financial need of many students. Later in life he graciously agreed to support the university and its students through an estate gift. Norma Cleveland committed her life to service of America’s armed forces as a nurse with the U.S. Navy for 22 years.  She attended Indiana University and received a B.S. in nursing education in 1953. 

OSU Professor Says State’s Economy Coming Back Slowly

Dr. Mark Snead, an OSU economist, is quoted in today’s media reports about Oklahoma’s economy. Snead says revised data from the federal government show Oklahoma is slightly behind the rest of the nation in recovering from pre-recession levels, but that we are catching up, with 30,000 jobs gained in the 18 months following the last recession. Meanwhile, the Office of State Finance is reporting that general revenue collections for February increased by 11 percent from a year ago. February receipts totaled $290.2 million last month, up $28.2 million from February 2004. 

Licensing Director Begins OSU Crafter’s Program

Oklahoma crafters who want to use the university’s logo to enhance and add value to their products can now participate in a new OSU Crafter's Program. The program was begun by Judy Barnard, OSU’s licensing director. More information can be found at http://osu.okstate.edu/osu_id/crafters.html 

OSU Campus Town Hall Meeting Set for March 23

Join U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn during a campus town hall meeting scheduled at 5:30 p.m., Wed., March 23, in the Wes Watkins Center. Dr. Coburn invites all OSU faculty, students and staff to attend and discuss the important issues facing our nation.

OSU-Okmulgee Students Recognized at Honor Society Conference

Students from OSU-Okmulgee were recently recognized at a meeting of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society for achievements in membership growth, leadership and service to campus and community. Phi Theta Kappa is the International Honor Society for two-year colleges. Culinary Arts major Tonya Terry received the Distinguished Chapter Officer Award. OSU-Okmulgee’s Beta Alpha Alpha chapter of Phi Theta Kappa won the Silver Pinnacle Award for increasing club membership by ten percent over the previous year. The group also won the 2005 Spirit Award for demonstrating the most spirit at the conference. Visual Communications major Amanda Howard was elected vice president of the Western Region for the Oklahoma/Arkansas Region of Phi Theta Kappa. The Distinguished New Advisor award went to Jonathan Watts, Student Life Activities Coordinator. 

Friends of Forms Schedule Lecture

The OSU Friends of the Forms will present "Descartes' Seat of the Soul:  The Philosophy and Science of the Mysterious Pineal Gland" at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, March 24 in Case Study 2 of the Student Union. OSU SportLines:  What a Weekend!

·        Cowboy Basketball is headed for the Sweet 16 for the sixth time under Coach Eddie Sutton. The Cowboys beat Southeastern Louisiana and Southern Illinois in Oklahoma City this past weekend.  OSU will meet No. 3 seed Arizona in Chicago Thursday at 8:55 p.m.

·        Winning by a school-record 70 points, wrestling captured its 33rd national championship and crowned five individual champions. Zack Esposito, Johny Hendricks, Chris Pendleton, Jake Rosholt and Steve Mocco added their names to OSU history as individual national champions.

·        Men’s Golf claimed the Hall of Fame Invitational title in Humble, Texas this weekend, winning its fourth title of the year. Tyler Leon, Zack Robinson and Pablo Martin all finished in the top ten.

·        Baseball began conference play this past weekend, winning 2-of-3 games against K-State. The Pokes are 17-7 and 2-1 in the Big XII. OSU hosts Baylor this Friday at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Stadium. 

·        Men’s Tennis lost a heartbreaker to number one-ranked Baylor, 4-3. The Cowboys fell behind 3-0 before staging a comeback, which was highlighted by Mark Van Elden’s three-set upset of the nation’s top ranked player, Benedikt Dorsch, at No. 1 singles. The Cowboys, 10-4 overall and 1-1 in conference, face Colorado Tuesday in Boulder.
