OSU Gets Two Goldwater Scholars
What a week -- a Truman Scholar, and now two OSU students have been named Goldwater Scholars. The Goldwater Scholarship is the premier undergraduate award in mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering. The scholarship covers costs of tuition, fees, books, and room and board to a maximum of $7,500 per year. This makes 12 Goldwater Scholars for OSU. Our latest student stars are:
1. Ryan Scott -- a junior National Merit Scholar from Stillwater, majoring in math and physics. Ryan is already an accomplished researcher, having completed two Wentz Research Projects and high level work with OSU faculty. As a result, he recently won an international award, the IBM-Zerner Fellowship, which is usually granted only to graduate students. He recently was selected to present his work at the Undergraduate Research Day at the State Capitol.
2. Nick Rasmussen -- a sophomore zoology major from Tekamah, Nebraska. Nick has conducted significant research on the social behavior of collared lizards and the impact of game fish stocking on aquatic invertebrate populations. He is a strong environmentalist and works for Habitat for Humanity and the Student Government Association. This summer, he intends to travel with 19 other OSU students to Cambridge, England, for a course on "Darwin and the History of Science," taught by OSU and Cambridge faculty and OSU President David Schmidly.
