Mandatory Training on New Sexual Harassment Policy Begins April 13

As a result of changes put in place by the U.S. Office of Civil Rights, OSU has written a new Sexual Harassment Policy.  All faculty and employee supervisors are required to be trained on the new policy.  The first of several sessions is set for Wednesday, April 13 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in 416 Student Union. The first session is a repeat of an executive briefing recently presented to the president, vice presidents, deans, directors and department heads.  No advanced registration is necessary.  Facilitators are Dr. Carolyn Hernandez, Affirmative Action director, and M. Scott Fern, associate general counsel. The next session is scheduled June 21. For more information, call OSU Training Services at 744-5374.

OSU Student Honored at Capitol Research Day

OSU Student Brian McWilliams of Bartlesville took second place during recent Research Day activities at the Oklahoma State Capitol. The event is sponsored by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and features college students from around Oklahoma who show their work to legislators and capitol visitors. Brian presented a research poster on bio-threat diagnostics. He won a $500 cash prize for his project, titled “Development of Diagnostic Protocols for Oklahoma Crop Biosecurity.”

OSU vets featured in ESPN2 canine spots

Dr. Michael Lorenz and Dr. Paul Demars of the OSU Center for Veterinary Health Sciences recently provided input for video segments called “ESPN2 Sporting Dog News,” to be aired nationally on ESPN2 each Sunday morning. The 12 spots, scheduled to start Sunday, April 3 and run between 8:20 to 8:25 a.m., include information from dog experts and veterinary information from OSU. They were produced by Winner Communications, a company based in Tulsa

Pet Care Seminar Focuses on Eye Ailments

The upcoming installment of the OSU Center for Veterinary Health Sciences’ Pet Care Seminar series will feature a presentation about eye ailments by Dr. Margi Gilmour, one of two board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists in Oklahoma.  Gilmour, an OSU associate professor of ophthalmology in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, will present “Common Eye Problems of Small Animals” at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 5.  All sessions are in the auditorium of McElroy Hall at McFarland and Farm Roads on the first Tuesday of each month and are free and open to the public. City Commissioner Tom Williams Featured on “You Never Know Who You’ll Meet on The Bus”

City Commissioner Tom Williams will be the featured celebrity rider to participate in The Bus’ “You Never Know Who You’ll Meet on The Bus” celebrity rider campaign on April 7.   • Matthew Wynn Sivils, an OSU English doctoral candidate, recently published “Chinnubbie and the Owl: Muscogee (Creek) Stories, Orations, and Oral Traditions by Alexander Posey.”  The book, published by the University of Nebraska Press, began as Sivils’s master’s thesis and is an edited collection of prose by nineteenth-century Indian Territory writer, Alexander Posey.
  • Tasha Bliss of Stillwater, an aviation management senior, was awarded a $2,500 GAT Wings to the Future Management Scholarship at the 16th annual International Women in Aviation Conference in Dallas. GAT Airline Ground Support, a maintenance, cargo management and ground support services provider, awards one national scholarship to a woman student in an aviation management or aviation business program at an accredited university each year.

OSU SportLines

 ·        Oklahoma State freshman Pablo Martin has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the Ben Hogan Award. The most prestigious award in men’s college golf, the Hogan is presented annually to the top men’s NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or junior college golfer. It considers all collegiate and amateur competitions during the last 12 months. 

·        Women’s Equestrian begins its post-season competition this weekend, sending 28 riders to compete individually at regional championships in Canyon, Texas.

·        Women’s Golf travels to Greensboro, N.C., to compete in the Bryan National Collegiate tournament today through Sunday. This is the last regular season tournament for the No. 8 Cowgirls before the Big XII Tournament on April 22.

·        Baseball goes to Nebraska for a three-game series in Lincoln today through Sunday. Tonight’s game begins at 6:35 p.m. and will be broadcast on 93.7 FM in Stillwater.

·        Men’s Tennis hosts No. 27 Texas and No. 15 Texas A&M at 2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday in Stillwater. The 11th-ranked Cowboys are 3-1 in Big XII play.

·        Football continues spring ball scrimmages Saturday at 11:45 a.m. in Boone Pickens Stadium. This is the Cowboys’ first major scrimmage of the year and is open to the public.
