Former Head of OSU-Okmulgee Dies
Wayne W. Miller, Stillwater, an internationally recognized technology
educator and retired chief administrator of OSU's Okmulgee campus, died
today (April 19). He was 84. Funeral services are pending with Strode
Funeral Home of Stillwater. Miller earned his bachelor of science degree in
1942 from Oklahoma A&M College (OSU), and a master of science degree in
1957 from the University of Illinois. In 1946, Miller was chosen to help
establish Oklahoma A&M's School of Technical Training in Okmulgee, heading
the institution's division of agriculture. In 1958, he became assistant
director of the school and was named director in 1963. Under his
leadership, student enrollment at Oklahoma State Tech (now OSU-Okmulgee)
more than doubled to 3,550 full time students, and the school gained an
international reputation.

SGA Helps Library Go 24-7 for Last three Weeks
Thanks to some help from Student Government Association, 24-hour library
access will be available from April 19-May 7. During finals week, the OSU
Library remains open 24-hours daily to provide students with access to
reference materials, course files on reserve and a quiet place to study.
Unfortunately, budget cuts have made this popular service impossible
without outside help. The Friends of the OSU Library have donated $3,500
per semester to extend hours from the end of dead week through finals. Now,
for the first time, SGA also has allocated $3,200, allowing the library to
begin the extended hours a week and a half earlier than usual. Vinay Patel,
the SGA Senator who initiated the bill said, “This money came from existing
student fees. By giving it to the library, we are giving it back to the
students.”

Forget High Gas Prices - Tank up on Beef Liver Puree!
A team of OSU chemical engineering students doesn't let high gas prices
slow them down. They go to plan B - pureed beef liver. The team will
represent OSU and other Midwest universities in the American Institute of
Chemical Engineers’ National CHEM-E Car Competition in November. Students
earned the national bid after winning the AIChE Mid-American Regional title
in Tulsa with a car powered by a reaction between hydrogen peroxide and
pureed beef liver. In the competition, students may use any chemical
reaction to power their cars. OSU's team utilized a "biological" reaction
between hydrogen peroxide and pureed beef liver. The reaction produces
oxygen, which they used to push a piston and drive a gear mechanism in
their car.
