Fund Established To Help Accident Victims' Family
A fund has been established at Stillwater National Bank to help the family
of Brian Cullen and Ardith Cullen. The OSU students were killed in a
multiple-car accident Monday south of Stillwater. Brian was a freshman in
University Academic Studies. His wife, Ardith, was a senior in animal
science. They had moved to Stillwater less than a year ago to attend OSU.
The couple had five children. If you'd like to help, you may send a

Gov. Henry Signs Bill to Eliminate Endowed Chair Backlog
Gov. Brad Henry has signed a bill that will eliminate a funding backlog for
endowed chairs at Oklahoma colleges and universities. House Bill 1904 by
Rep. Bill Mitchell and Sen. Mike Morgan authorizes a bond issue to provide
matching funds for endowed chairs. About $52 million in private donations
throughout the state is waiting for matching funds.
Distinguished Architecture Grads to Give Earth Day Lecture, Also Honored
with Lohman Medal
Edward M. Jones (Class of 1973), principal in Jones Studio in Phoenix;
and Neal E. Jones (Class of 1977), the president of Jones Studio, will
present a special Earth Day lecture on Thursday, April 22 from 7- 8:30
p.m. in 106 Noble Research Center. The title is “Architecture as a
Response to Environment.” Jones Studio is one of the nation’s pre-eminent
design firms and considered a national leader in applying principles of
sustainable construction technology to its buildings. The group's
projects communicate a clear message about energy-efficient and
environmentally sensitive technologies and materials. Everyone is
invited.
The two distinguished graduates also will be honored Friday, April 23 at
the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology's 2004 Melvin R.
Lohmann Medal reception, dinner and presentation in the Wes Watkins
Center from 6-9 p.m. The CEAT Student Council will present awards to
organizations that won in events during CEAT-Week and St. Pat Salutes
Awards to five outstanding seniors. Dean’s Awards for the college's
outstanding students also will be presented.
Engineering Senior Gets Top National Honor
Mary Elizabeth Womack, a biosystems and agricultural engineering senior,
will receive the Reuben Trane Scholarship from the American Society of
Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. The $10,000 award is
the society’s top honor.
English Department Bringing Pulitzer Winner to Stillwater
With funding from the Norris Foundation, the OSU English Department will
host a poetry reading by internationally renowned poet and writer W.S.
Merwin at 7:30 p.m., April 29 in room 215 of the Stillwater Public Library.
Merwin is the Pulitzer Prize winning author of more than 15 books of
poetry, 20 books of translation, numerous plays and four books of prose.
Sailing Club Plans Free Barbeque
The Oklahoma State Sailing Club (OSSC) is is having a barbecue at the Lake
Carl Blackwell clubhouse on the south shore of Lake Carl Blackwell, April
24 from 1 p.m. until dark. There is no admission. Everyone's invited.
OSU Women Scientists Speaking at the Oklahoma Women's Summit April 23
OSU women scientists will speak at the Oklahoma Women's Summit April 23.
Gov. Brad Henry and the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women are
co-sponsoring the all-day event at the State Capitol Building. Panelists
for the Women in Science breakout session include: Dr. Kathy Kocan,
veterinary medicine; Dr. Ellen Stevens, biosystems engineering; and Dr.

Sports: Two-Dollar Deal for Cowgirl GameTonight, Wrestler Recognized,
Tennis Player Tapped, Ticket Tabs Announced
The Cowgirl Softball team is inviting OSU faculty and staff to a night
of fun and excitement as team members take on the Texas A&M Aggies
tonight (Wedensday, April 21) for a doubleheader at 5 & 7 p.m. The
athletics department is offering OSU faculty and staff admission for
only $2. Staff must present their staff ID at the ticket booth, and
each staff member is limited to four tickets at the discounted rate.
All fans also have the opportunity to play Softball Bingo for a chance
to win great prizes. Cowgirl Stadium is on the corner of Duck and
McElroy.
Johnny Thompson was named male student-athlete of the year during the
Athletic Department's academic awards banquet. Thompson was recognized
for exemplifying what a student-athlete should represent during his four
years at OSU. In addition to athletic and civic accomplishments,
Thompson was on the Academic All-Big 12 Team and was a three-time OSU
Academic Achievement Award Winner. He was on the Dean's Honor Roll in
the spring of 2003 and on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll all four
years.
Oklahoma State's Juan Felipe Diaz was named the Big 12 Tennis Player of
the Week, along with Baylor's Matias Marin. Diaz won both of his matches
that he played last week.
Six home games highlight the OSU football schedule this fall, including
a homecoming game against Texas A&M and the return of Bedlam football to
Boone Pickens Stadium. Ticket prices for the 2004 season have been
