CBA Dean James Lumpkin Stepping Down

DDr. James R. Lumpkin announced today that he will step down as Dean of the College of Business Administration, effective August 1, 2004. Dr. Lumpkin has served as dean since July 2000 and holds the rank of professor in the OSU Department of Marketing. He will return to teaching and research. OSU Provost Marlene Strathe thanked Dr. Lumpkin for his years of service with the college. She said appointment of an interim dean is expected in the near future, with a search for a permanent dean initiated in the fall semester. Dr. Lumpkin came to OSU after serving as dean of the Foster College of Business Administration at Bradley University.

Faculty and Staff Volunteers Needed for ALPHA

Ohe ALPHA program is in desperate need of faculty and staff volunteers. ALPHA is an annual orientation for students who are new to campus. Dates for ALPHA 2004 are Aug. 19-22. If you'd like to help greet and welcome these students, check out the volunteer website at http://www.alpha.okstate.edu/volunteer. Each volunteer will receive an ALPHA volunteer T-Shirt. OSU Gets Media Mentions

  • A front-page story in this week's Tulsa World featured Dr. Jane Curtis from OSU's University Health Services. The story focused on Colonel Curtis' work in Afghanistan, where she is serving with the Oklahoma 45th Infantry Brigade. She oversees all medical personnel, clinics, activities and cases for which the 45th is responsible.
  • The Tulsa World also carried a great feature story and photos illustrating OSU's research on sensors that might be used in the war on terrorism. Dr. James Harmon, from physics, and his graduate students were featured.

Community Input Sought for Transit System

OSU's Parking and Transit Services Department will be conducting a series of community meetings in Stillwater to discuss transit needs of Stillwater residents. The meetings are scheduled in room 302 of the Stillwater Public Library with the first session on Wednesday, June 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A second session is set for Thursday, June 10, from 5:30 - 7 p.m. The meetings are designed to solicit comments from Stillwater residents regarding bus service and other transit needs of the community. State Room Open for Summer

The State Room at the Student Union will be open for lunch this summer, Monday - Friday, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The restaurant also has its new rooms, the Carreker Lounge, Joullian Wine Tasting Room and Jorns Conference Room, available for booking special events such as faculty retreats, receptions and parties.
