Dr. Dr. Greg Mosier, professor of legal studies in business
Is it his personal enthusiasm, his expert grasp of the subject, his ability to communicate or just the fact that he cares that makes Dr. Greg Mosier so popular among students, colleagues and alumni? As one student put it, "Definitely, all the above."

Graduate students in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Student Association recently recognized Mosier as "professor of the year" for his work and OSU Regents named him among the select recipients of their Distinguished Teaching Award last fall.

The professor of legal studies in the College of Business Administration is obviously more than just another instructor for students past and present. As one student puts it, "He (Mosier) proved me wrong in my assumptions that his required business law class would be boring. He has an excellent way of making any topic interesting by using real life examples and getting the class involved in interactive debate. His class had a positive impact on me as a student."

Colleagues and alumni alike point to Mosier's personal enthusiasm for the subject matter he teaches and his ability to transfer that to his students. "He has a superb knowledge of his subject, is able to establish an excellent rapport with students and has a sincere interest in their welfare," reports one of Mosier's former department heads.

Mosier's care and concern for students has staying power according to one of his former students who has now been in the business world for 12 years: "Greg was an important role model for me during my years at OSU and he's played a significant role as mentor in my life since then, especially during important decision periods. His support has lead to continued success for me both professionally and personally."

Aside from his teaching, Mosier shows he cares by committing his time and talents to serving as a faculty advisor for the Business Student Council and working to improve honors programs. He has also established a track record for taking full advantage of the latest technology to bring the classroom to the student. Mosier was among the early adopters and promoters of computer-based distance learning technology that is now especially important for serving busy business professionals.

Through his initiative, Oklahoma State is one of several universities that participate in a consortium known as the National Technological University (NTU), which started offering courses online and on CD several years ago.

"Thanks to Greg's efforts, busy professionals have the chance to pursue their master degrees or other professional development courses at a time and place more convenient to them through the NTU," says Julie Weathers, director of OSU Business Extension. Mosier was named Curriculum Chair of the MBA Program in 1998 and Weathers credits his leadership role in NTU for helping keep the College of Business Administration in the forefront of distance learning at OSU.

An active member of the International Program Committee, Mosier has also been instrumental in the development of study abroad programs for business students. The course he teaches takes students to Toronto, Canada, to get an up-close look at business and industry and how it operates on an international basis.

As for Mosier himself, the favorite part of his work is what he calls, "the enlightenment and discovery of learning."

"Being part of the growth that I see every day in students as they fit pieces of living and learning together is a continuing education for me. There are so many opportunities for success while a person is in college. Teaching and seeing students succeed and build confidence is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a professor."
