Dr. Steven C. Price of Madison, Wis., has been appointed assistant vice president for technology development in the Oklahoma State University Division of Research and Technology Transfer. His appointment was approved by the Oklahoma State University/A&M Board of Regents on Sept. 10.

Price, a consultant to the Graduate School at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, since 2003, also served from 1994-2003 as director of University-Industry Relations. He was responsible for managing the technology transfer office, establishing and promoting opportunities for research collaboration between the university and industry; promoting industry investment in university product development and technology transfer activities; overseeing the intake of invention disclosures and the equity review process; and coordinating and facilitating intellectual property concerts.

Prior to this he held the position of biotechnology industrial liaison at Iowa State University, and also was the interim executive director of the Iowa State University Research Foundation and the interim director of the Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer.

He has been invited to give numerous presentations around the U.S. and abroad, has had 15 refereed scientific papers published plus four papers on technology transfer/policy; is the editor of two book chapters on plant genetics/evolution and six book chapters on technology transfer/policy; and received a patent in 1987 on the use of tetraploidy for increasing the growth of corn.

He is a member of the Association of University Technology Managers, the Licensing Executives Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Chemical Society.

Price received his A.B. in botany in 1973 and his M.S. in biology in 1975, both from San Diego State University, and his Ph.D. in genetics in 1980 from the University of California, Davis.
